Friends of the Springfield Art Museum (FOSAM) and Studio 55 Fine Arts Guild are co-sponsoring a hands-on

workshop with artist David Bigelow on how to use drawing to help generate ideas.

No drawing skills or training is required. The goal is to tap into visual thinking and unblock and unleash your creativity.

The workshop, suitable for young people eight years through adults, is on March 16, 2017 from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.

in the community room at the Springfield Art Museum, 1111 E Brookside Dr. All materials will be provided free of charge.

The evening is free and open to the public but reservations are required.

Please email Sandra Letson: sandragraves@mchsi.com or call 417-869-7812 to reserve your seat.

Bigelow will display some of his etchings and share a little of his creation process. The content and subjects in his work are about discovering things about our society from the outside in through clichés and popular notions.  He explains: "Humor as content often appears when the familiar is seen in a new way.  The goal is serious art with humorous content.”

David Bigelow was born and raised in Michigan. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Art in printmaking and painting
and a Master of Fine Arts in printmaking and drawing, both from the University of Michigan. He taught at six different institutions and is currently teaching at Evangel University in Springfield, MO. David and his wife

Marcia operate Bigelow Studios where he creates and sells his etchings. He sells his work internationally on line, through galleries, direct marketing, art fairs and juried competitions and shows.

Friends of the Springfield Art Museum (FOSAM) formed in 1982 for the purpose of bringing educational
lectures and exhibits to the museum. As an organization, dedicated to furthering artistic education in Springfield, the FOSAM organizes programs and lectures that provide educational support and sponsors the Family Art Lab. Their teams and committees have worked on behalf of the Museum to produce and sponsor over 120 exhibitions, receptions, gallery talks, educational lectures, special fundraising events and function and exhibits to the museum.

Special Project At the Discovery Gardens Montessori School:

Working with children is one of the many ways our members promote the arts. Recently a team from Studio 55 worked with children at Discovery Gardens Montessori School. With the help of Larry Stevens, Cindy Merritt, and Mona Gist, all 58 children constructed individual art projects, and 4 group projects. Many thanks to Larry, Cindy, and Mona!
