MAY 2025

Studio 55 Arts Guild Program

Wednesday, May 14, 2025 at 1:00 PM

LOCATION: National Avenue Christian Church
1515 S. National Ave., Springfield, MO

Program by Jennifer Linders-Glover

Jennifer Linders-Glover is one of those artists who transcends media and methods.  She is a sculptor and photographer, focusing mainly in sculptures now. She explains, "My artwork involves stone and clay sculpture. Photography is a great passion. I have ventured far and wide, exploring alone at times, which allows me to fully immerse myself into my surroundings." Regarding her sculpture work, "I have been called a direct carver. I examine each stone and let the story unfold. I carve with chisels, files, diamond blades, and a multitude of other tools. My clay work came from the need to create while recovering from surgery. I hand sculpt, using water based clay."

You can visit Jennifer's website to see more of her photography, https://www.jenniferlinders.com/.  And she has two Instagram accounts you can follow, @jenniferlindersphotography and @sugarbuttstudios. The second account focuses on her works as a sculptor, and the former includes both photography and sculpture. In the meantime, here are several images that Jennifer provided as examples of her artwork. We hope you can join us on May 14 to learn more.

Our April Meeting

Many thanks to our speakers at our April meeting, Robert and Sharon Reed, the married team behind Walnut & Ash Interiors. How interesting to learn about the intersection of art with interior design!

"A Mother's Love"

Studio 55 members are displaying art at the Library Center in our exhibit, "A Mother's Love." Here is some of the art you will see there, shared with us by Barbara Vicente and Carol Snyder. Barbara's piece is a crochet doily mounted on fabric board, and Carol's pieces are floral paintings.

Mindy Tillery

Mindy Tillery submitted three pieces to the International Encaustic Artists "Hope Lives: Art for ALS Research Renderings" juried exhibition. One of her paintings, "ALS 2," was selected for the Lynn Giovannelli Excellence in Art Award.

From the IEA Chair for this exhibition: "The collection of art submitted for Research Renderings was powerful and created with great finesse, especially considering the serious topic of ALS. The Inquiry Award is for artwork that signifies the power of knowledge. Artwork features definitive elements that encourage viewers to think about people living with ALS, ALS research or how ALS research ignites and propels scientists and the ALS community. Although there was competition in this field, your painting was the strongest choice among them."

Finley River Art Gallery

Studio 55 member Carol Snyder shares that the Finley River Art Gallery has many events happening in the next several months. Their website is located here.

Finley River Art Gallery's next open competition is coming up in mid-May.  It's the Mystery Box competition.  Stop by the Gallery in downtown Ozark and purchase your mystery boxes for $5 each.  Whatever is inside the box must inspire your traditional art entry.  Entries are due at the Gallery May 14 through the 17th (open hours are 10-3).  You do not need to be a member to compete and there is no additional entry fee.  An official entry form is availableon this page of their website.

Finley River Gallery is looking for instructors for two classes in August and two in October.  Instructors are not paid but the Gallery provides all materials for students.  As the instructor you chose the class theme and projects.  If you would be interested in judging one of our upcoming public competitions, they are looking for judges for Mystery Box in May, Go Big in August and the Power of Small in October.  Judges receive $25 as a thank you.  If you are interested in teaching and/or judging, please contact FRFA secretary Glee Kieny at glee.kieny@gmail.com or 816-645-4833.

A group from Finley River will soon begin some plein air painting.  If you are interested in joining the group, contact Javier Saltares, 1-417-988-4976, jarv_art@yahoo.com.

At their website, you can also learn about classes offered at the Gallery (classes also appear on our website's classes page, here).
