July 12th Meeting of Studio 55 Art Guild Featured
The Work Of Painter David Tummons
Creator on Several Levels
David Tummons, a 1969 graduate of Hillcrest High School owner of Swank Salon on East Sunshine, is a noted and exhibited painter of a style he calls "Impressionistic Realism". In high school and the beginning of his art career he drew in a photo realistic style. Now he works in a much looser style.
Many of the paintings feature horses, which have always been part of Tummons’ life. “I grew up in a rodeo environment,” he said, “and have enjoyed creating pieces that remind me of that period in my life. My folks had a quarter horse business north of Springfield.”
“I have a tendency to march to the beat of a different drummer,” Tummons wrote in his artist’s statement. “I believe all people have some form of God-given talent; mine started early in the form of drawing. (My) pieces were originally more photo realistic, but I began to feel the need to let my energy and imagination go a little crazy.” Learn more about Tummons and his art at: http://www.davidtummonsart.com/
The program will start at 1:00pm on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at the National Avenue Christian Church, 1515 S. National Avenue, Springfield, Mo. 65804. Admission is free and open to the public. Following the presentation, Studio 55 Fine Arts Guild members and visitors are invited to participate in an artist “show and share."

Upcoming Opportunities to Exhibit:
Springfield Art Museum Announces Exhibition Opportunity for Local Artists
Springfield, MO. (May 17, 2017) – The Springfield Art Museum is seeking proposals for exhibition in a new flexible social gallery space that combines exhibitions, retail, and limited beverage service. The Museum encourages submissions from Springfield-based artists working in all media, with particular preference given to two-dimensional work and low-relief sculpture.
Set to open in late October 2017, the gallery portion of this new flex space within the Museum will feature a rotating exhibit titled Art in Our City. Tentatively scheduled for 6 month rotations, Art in Our City will highlight not only local artists, but also the character of Springfield’s unique neighborhoods and will draw out their influence on the artists who inhabit them. Featured artists and neighborhoods will eventually be compiled into a publication, which will in turn be available for purchase in the new retail space.
Museum Director Nick Nelson notes that “Local art and art with local ties is an important part of our collection and exhibitions. This new opportunity creates another intentional layer to those areas, intended to connect people and places through art, and will hopefully serve as a bridge to neighorhoods not traditionally served by the Museum.”
In fact, Nelson says “Recent attendance studies show that 25% of our annual visitors travel over 75 miles to attend the Museum. Art in Our City is a great way to introduce these visitors to the bevvy of talented and creative individuals in our own backyard.” Interested artists can view a detailed “Call For Artists” and apply for consideration of their work at the Museum’s website www.sgfmuseum.org. There is no entry fee associated with this exhibition.
The Springfield Art Museum is Springfield, Missouri’s oldest cultural institution, founded in 1928. A department of the City of Springfield, we are dedicated to enhancing the education and documenting the cultural heritage of the people of southwest Missouri through the collection, preservation, and exhibition of art objects. For more information, please visit www.sgfmuseum.org
