May 10th Program
Eric Ray
Award-winning Artist, Illustrator, Designer, and Art Director
"Telling A Story In Pen And Ink"

Eric Ray, artist, illustrator, designer, and art director, will be the speaker at the May 10th meeting of the Studio 55 Art Guild. He will be discussing his photo-realistic pen and ink illustrations. This will include the progression from a pencil sketch to the final inking, the tools used and the thought process involved. He will discuss how he chooses the subject matter and the feel of the final work.

Mr. Ray has requested that those attending bring paper and pen or pencil for a hands-on instruction.

He started doing pen and ink artwork decades ago as a freelance Illustrator in Southern California. Mr. Ray has a great passion for creating art. "I choose to work in Pen and Ink because it is not a simple media to master and is also relatively uncommon. I strive to develop art with a feel for the subject matter and the story I wish to tell. The search for the beauty in the complexity of form, pattern and texture is important. I enjoy creating visual shortcuts, innuendo and suggestion balanced against insanely detailed rendering in my pen work."

Following the presentation, Studio 55 Fine Arts Guild members and visitors are invited to participate in an artist “show and share." The program is free and open to the public. Join us from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 10th in “The Gallery” at National Avenue Christian Church, 1515 S. National Ave., Springfield, Missouri.
